Scenic drives - by Eric from Bath in England
There's only one way to get around Guadaloupe, your own transport. In Point A Pitre we got a car and enjoyed this colourful island. The scenery is gorgeous, lush and green and life is so relaxed.

Point a Pitre Overview
Guadeloupe’s economic centre and largest city Pointe-a-Pitre is a small town that began its existence as a fishing village in 1654, and has today a population of about 410,000 with about half being under the age of 20. The narrow streets of Pointe-a-Pitre are filled with cheerful crowds who seem to disappear at sunset leaving the town peaceful and quiet.

Point a Pitre Essentials
Centre St-John-Perse - This $20 million project has transformed the waterfront of Pointe-a-Pitre into a complex of restaurants, boutiques and shops.

Quai de la Darse - The quay is lined with lively markets, and stalls selling island goodies and a variety of items such as T-shirts, fruit and spices.

Place de la Victoire - The town centre is a shady park filled with Poinciana’s and palm trees where once people were put to death by guillotine.

Cafeiere Beausejour - Learn about coffee cultivation and local culture at this coffee plantation that has been restored to its original Creole Style.

Cathedrale de St-Pierre-et-St-Paul - Pointe-a-Pitre’s major landmark and designed to withstand hurricanes and earthquakes the 19th century church is often referred to as the ‘Iron Cathedral’ because of its skeleton of bolted iron ribs.
